From: Michael Harrison via chugalug ------------------------------------------------------ Been through a lot worse weather without all the advance warnings for days. Weather emergencies has me thinking about off-grid and secure coms: Been playing with Meshtastic. If you are too, "Signal Mtn Geek Router" is at the house with line of sight to a lot of Chattanooga and beyond. Have intention of adding it to a dedicated server (little ARM Linux box) to it to provide some interfaces and services via the Python CLI code (kinda crunchy) or my own. Had a few chats with actual people beyond radio checks. It reaches (via 3-4 hops) Atlanta and Knoxville. I'm on the wrong side of the "mountain" to reach Nashville. My carry around node is a Lilygo T-Deck "Muon" https://meshtastic.org The idea is off-grid coms for weather emergencies, remote camping, or societal collapse. On my list is to play with ATAK (ATAK-Civ) via Meshtastic. Coolest thing I've seen in a while. Useful for first responders, lost hikers, paintball, airsoft and insurrection.
