=============================================================== From: Phil Sieg ------------------------------------------------------ I just drove around the building Rod is suggesting for the 2nd time. The good and the bad: 1. It is big 2. The ceilings are low (A negative for my interests). 3. It has a fenced "yard" area. 4. It has elevated loading docks. 5. No middle-class parent of ANY teenager will ever drop their kid off = in that neighborhood... 6. Exterior is brick and seems structurally sound. They have kinda started that with North Chatt, highland park and alton park, but it has a long way to go. There are some beautiful homes in the area though if they would just fix them up. nfo/chugalug

=============================================================== From: Rod-Lists ------------------------------------------------------ Thanks Phil. I'm still making contacts on the incentives front. Naysayers make a counter proposal. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Phil Sieg" To: "CHUGALUG" Sent: Friday, January 28, 2011 1:21:40 PM GMT -05:00 US/Canada Eastern Subject: Re: [Chugalug] Hackerspace: Has anyone priced this location? I just drove around the building Rod is suggesting for the 2nd time. The good and the bad: 1. It is big 2. The ceilings are low (A negative for my interests). 3. It has a fenced "yard" area. 4. It has elevated loading docks. 5. No middle-class parent of ANY teenager will ever drop their kid off in that neighborhood... 6. Exterior is brick and seems structurally sound. Would have to walk the interior, and examine the roof to get any better feeling. I am NOT interested in purchasing this property, and as such the lease would have to be short term and VERY cheap. Phil Sieg President snapfon www.snapfon.com office: 423.535.9968 x123 mobile: 423.331.0725 fax: 423.265.9820 1. I think we need intel before approaching the agents. There are folk who can find out that before we do. 2.. I made an inquiry about what kind of incentives are available to relocate there. I'll will probably have to have a f2f to help understand what we are planning. I could also talk to the head of the local neighborhood association. BTW the section of Roanoke I was talking about is near holtzclaw not the section that crosses wilder. And if you don't like the idea, find another option. Who is leasing the property in Dodson? Call them and start asking questions. And please post your notes here so we can follow up. Weed and seed...what did you send them in regards to the grant request and how did you spin it as something to reduce crime in the area? Who knows. I expect the e-mail I sent to to be met by puzzled looks. I'll follow up with call in a day or three. Meanwhile look into other places. But I do think this site or one like it could bring help from the city and other sources. But how do find out what they asking for the 3100 block of Dodson? Zillow seems focused on residentials. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cameron Kilgore" < ghostfreeman@gmail.com > To: "CHUGALUG" < chugalug@chugalug.org > Sent: Friday, January 28, 2011 12:41:27 PM GMT -05:00 US/Canada Eastern Subject: Re: [Chugalug] Hackerspace: Has anyone priced this location? You're making a solid case. How soon do you expect to get a turnaround on grants? Actually surprising number do. By and large its been low crime since I've been here. Now near Roanoke that is another matter. I've heard of more home invasions in Hixson in the 3 years since moving. But it is an economicly repressed area. But you are not far from Amnicola Police Center. Hell you hit it with a potato cannon prolley. But here is the point. That didn't stop us from gathering at mike's place on main. Real estate will be cheap. We might get some grants or other assistance to locate there. And we would actually make a difference. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nick Smith" < nick@nicksmith.us > To: "CHUGALUG" < chugalug@chugalug.org > Sent: Friday, January 28, 2011 12:22:33 PM GMT -05:00 US/Canada Eastern Subject: Re: [Chugalug] Hackerspace: Has anyone priced this location? You can get EPB there. You dont want to walk the streets at night.
