KUbuntu help needed

From: John Aldrich
I have a Compaq Presario F700 laptop with an nVidia GeForce 6100 on-board
graphics and Broadcom Wi-Fi chipset. For some strange reason, even though I
told Kubuntu (14.04 LTS) to use the 3rd party software drivers it still wants
to install Nouveau drivers and refuses to install the Broadcom drivers by
default. I'm able to get the Broadcom drivers installed, but for some reason,
it craps out when I try to install the closed-source GeForce drivers. That is
to say it will install just fine, but then it wont' finish booting.

Any suggestions???

=============================================================== From: John Aldrich ------------------------------------------------------ Disregard. I finally got it to work after reinstalling for the umpteenth time, waiting until it half-froze the desktop, got to a terminal window (CTRL+F1) logged in, blacklisted Nouveau and a few others I found suggested, updated the Broadcom drivers, installed the proprietary nVidia drivers (apt-get install nvidia-current), rebooted and all was FINALLY well! Geez, what a PITA!
