Home Media Cloud Server

From: Garrett Gaston

I've just set up a home media cloud server using the FLAWLESS Linux Mint im=
age. http://flawless-server.com/

I wanted to be able to stream my media collection from inside the house so =
I set up a samba server and it worked pretty well=2C then I decided I'd lik=
e to be able to access my media from outside the network=2C that's when I f=
ound the flawless setup and the Plex Media Server. It's working well and I =
love the interface=2C but it's also full of garbage I don't need. Should I =
decide to change I think I might like to try a cloud program that can run s=
traight from a Debian CLI server=2C any suggestions. This is the first time=
I've tried creating my own self hosted cloud. Thanks.

=============================================================== From: Nick Smith ------------------------------------------------------ What type of "garbage" are you talking about? Plex pretty much gives you the power to run your own personal netflix. If you dont need some features, like music or photos, you dont have to use them. I dont run plex on linux, but im pretty sure that it will run from CLI, you dont need a desktop environment. Ive been extremely happy with plex. I couldnt recommend anything else honestly, its the best ive found. If you are a subscriber, they are also adding "cloud sync" where you can sync your media to google drive or drop box, and you dont even have to have your media server turned on and you can still stream your content directly from the net.

=============================================================== From: Eric Wolf ------------------------------------------------------ I run Plex on Ubuntu Server 12.04LTS. Works great! Be sure to check out Couch Potato and SickBeard. -Eric -=--=---=----=----=---=--=-=--=---=----=---=--=-=- Eric B. Wolf 720-334-7734

=============================================================== From: Nick Smith ------------------------------------------------------ Flawless looks pretty awesome if all that stuff actually works out of the box.

=============================================================== From: James Nylen ------------------------------------------------------ Run it on the CLI, and access the web interface from another computer on your network.

=============================================================== From: Lynn Dixon ------------------------------------------------------ Plex does have some CLI commands, but its mostly driven through its web console. You should be able to install it on a headless server using straight up CLI with no problems. That's how I run it at least. I do use the Plex web console that lives at my.ip.address:32400/web/index.html to configure and manage it. I'm a huge Plex fan, and paid for the lifetime PlexPass license.

=============================================================== From: Stephen Kraus ------------------------------------------------------ I'm in love with Plex, and Roku loves it too

=============================================================== From: Tim Youngblood ------------------------------------------------------ Exact solution I've been running since Roku had a Plex client. I'm using TVShows on a Mac server with Transmission to pull my streamz. Much easier than the MythTV/Happauge tuner days!
