Switched to Mint

From: Phil Sieg
------------------------------------------------------
I have been having some issues with Ubuntu 12.10 (desktop 64) hogging resources and acting flaky (basement server)

Just switched over to Linux Mint 15 Cinnamon 64, and so far I love it. Won't know about stability and resources for a while, but I am hopeful. This reminds me of the good old days of Ubuntu. Nice clean intuitive interface, fast install, and no glitches so far...

At this stage I would give it a +1

"The computer is the most remarkable tool that we've ever come up with. It's the equivalent of a bicycle for our minds."

Steve Jobs, 1955-2011

=============================================================== From: David White ------------------------------------------------------ *sigh* I really need to get on the band wagon, and do a Mint install... I haven't used Ubuntu 12.x (which is still installed side-by-side with Windows on my laptop) in months, because of all of the problems it gave me.

=============================================================== From: James Nylen ------------------------------------------------------ Agreed. I've been using Linux Mint 14 64-bit (with Mate) for about 15 months now and no major issues. t y

=============================================================== From: Andrew Rodgers ------------------------------------------------------ I am a huge fan of Mint Debian Edition. Using Mate. me.

=============================================================== From: Andrew Pierce ------------------------------------------------------ My main development machine for work has been Mint for about 6 months. Absolutely stable and everything Just Works. Prior, I also was running Ubuntu and it just got really flaky after a while. I couldn't pinpoint anything in particular but I honestly didn't have time to play around trying to make it work. I needed a dependable dev box and Mint delivered. =============================================================== From: kitepilot@kitepilot.com ------------------------------------------------------ Man, I used to love Ubuntu... :( I've been running Xubuntu and I like it for the most part (other than the occasional sound screw up that I CAN'T %$#&@ FIX!!!! :( ) I tried Mint and Cinnamon sometime ago and the experience was, well... less than 'stellar' I guess I'll try this suggestion: Sigh... =============================================================== From: Mike Harrison ------------------------------------------------------ Me Too. Been hearing good things about Cinnimon 2.0. It broke away from Gnome.

=============================================================== From: Rod ------------------------------------------------------ Some the issues with ubuntu aren't always ubuntu but debian upstream. Example 1 some issues with g3 video are upstream and not ubuntu issues. Example 2 I've also seen some slow down on debian wheezy that the ubuntu= = users have been discussing lately. I wonder if it is as simple as apt-g= et = clean to fix that? Both Bodhi and Peppermint OS have been looking good for lightweight = installs. And there is always Crunchbang.
