Happy pi approximation day!

From: John Aldrich

Today, 22/7 is pi-approximation day. Just want to see how many of you
knew that was today and why it's called that? I'll admit, I had to
look it up! :D

=============================================================== From: James Nylen ------------------------------------------------------ It's a little more obvious when you write the date in European format like that...

=============================================================== From: "Kite, Mike" ------------------------------------------------------ I'd forgotten that 22/7 =3D ~pi. But in the spirit of the day, I'll recommend Schnell

=============================================================== From: Ed King ------------------------------------------------------ how do you know if every one of those 24 million digits is correct?=A0=A0 ;= -)=0A=0A=0AI suppose it would be nerdy fun to get 2 different pi calculator= s and compare their results=0A=0A=0A=0A

=============================================================== From: "Kite, Mike" ------------------------------------------------------ I wouldn't know if they were right beyond 4 digits, but it's fun to see how= fast the computer can churn it out. I'd like, one day, providing fundage$, to build a Cuda-aware machine, perha= ps with an older nVidia Tesla card and see if I can get it to calculate pi = much faster. I'm not much for gaming, but I do like to see how quickly a computer can ca= lculate things and it seems that GPUs are better at that. Mike Kite Today's Topics: 1. Re: Happy pi approximation day! =============================================================== From: Unkmar ------------------------------------------------------ For some reason I memorized pi to about 8 digits. The length of display of most digital calculators. 3.14159265 Oh, and I'm back!
