key expiry, extend or re-gen

Soliciting wisdom from the list regarding extending expired signing keys
vs. regenerating.  Except the existing chain, it's not even worth a
thought, however... the existing chain weighs in heavily, even though it
has its fair share of expired, and things that don't expire, which I
don't much care for either.

I'll take conversation if wisdom is too much to ask :)
