Blog post - Multistation computing feeds a multitude

From: Phil Shapiro
------------------------------------------------------

Hi chugalug community,

Here's a new blog post I wrote today for opensource.com

http://opensource.com/life/12/9/multistation-computing-using-fedora-17

Thanks for sharing with anyone you know who might be interested in it. It would be so sweet if Nate
could demo multistation Fedora 17 computing sometime in the Chattanooga libraries -- maybe with the
help of some volunteers from this list.

=============================================================== From: Lynn Dixon ------------------------------------------------------ Phil, Good writeup, but I believe the proper term is called Multi-seat. Since there are mulitple "seats" available for each individual user login on the same workstation. When I hear Multi-station, I think of mulitple workstations, with their own compute resources. What you are referring to is actually Multi-seat since each one is using the same compute resources. Hope that helps!

=============================================================== From: Nate Hill ------------------------------------------------------ Brilliant as always Phil. I'd love to do something like this, but the only way it can happen is with h= elp from folks on the list- I haven't the knowledge or the time to lead such= a venture. As per an earlier email to the list I'll be setting up a 'hack the library' e= vent some time relatively soon. Look for it! here are mulitple "seats" available for each individual user login on the sa= me workstation. When I hear Multi-station, I think of mulitple workstations= , with their own compute resources. What you are referring to is actually M= ulti-seat since each one is using the same compute resources. t. It would be so sweet if Nate braries -- maybe with the philshapiro

=============================================================== From: Lynn Dixon ------------------------------------------------------ Nate, I have a good bit of Fedora 17 media left. If we had the hardware, we could easily do this. :-) Just name a time and date.

=============================================================== From: Phil Shapiro ------------------------------------------------------ Thanks to Lynn Dixon's eagle eyes, I've corrected the word use in this blog post. It's supposed to be multiseat computing rather than multistation computing. The people who created Fedora 17 proudly boast about Fedora 17's "automatic multiseat" capabilities. It's important to support that exact lingo. phil ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lynn Dixon" To: "Chattanooga Unix Gnu Android Linux Users Group" Sent: Monday, September 17, 2012 4:18:17 PM Subject: Re: [Chugalug] Blog post - Multistation computing feeds a multitude Nate, I have a good bit of Fedora 17 media left. =============================================================== From: Lynn Dixon ------------------------------------------------------ Nate, If you set a date, and give me a heads-up a few weeks in advance, I can see if I land some Fedora Swag for the "event" to hand out. CHUGALUG is lucky in that there are 2 Fedora Ambassadors on the mailing list: David Duncan and Myself :) We can make it rain some Fedora love!
