VPS/Dedicated/Colo recommendation

I would recommend KnoxColo. They have really good pricing on their VPS, and
I have had a machine Co located with them for almost a year now. Great
folks to work with as well.
Randy had a VPS with them so he might can give feedback on the vps stuff.

=============================================================== From: Eric Wolf ------------------------------------------------------ I have a new client who is running a fairly low-traffic LAMP site on a VPS. The site does some fairly complex SQL and really needs to be on a server with a lot more RAM (currently he only gets 1GB). He's also paying way too much. It's being resold to him and the base price is $140/month. Running phpSysInfo on my Bluehost shared account reports 32GB RAM and 8 cores. Who knows how many other sites are on the server but I suspect the client would see better performance there. Bluehost doesn't have VPS or Dedicated, so there's no way to migrate if his needs grow. HostGator and DreamHost appear to offer decent enough prices. I find it interesting that RAM dictates the pricing for VPS. I'd like to find something that gives him at least two cores, 4GB RAM and 500GB disk space. Traffic is a non-issue. Does anyone have any other recommendations? -Eric -=--=---=----=----=---=--=-=--=---=----=---=--=-=- Eric B. Wolf 720-334-7734

=============================================================== From: David White ------------------------------------------------------ I recently had a VERY bad experience with Dreamhost. I can understand technical issues, but the way they delt with the issue (failed RAID array, and then to make matters worse, corrupt backups) was terrible. I give their customer support low marks. I use Linode for all my VPS needs. Very good prices, great uptime, good customer service, etc... Rackspace and Amazin are of course good as well. Sent from my iPhone

=============================================================== From: Eric Wolf ------------------------------------------------------ MyHosting.com has great prices but some crappy reviews. Given how poorly provisioned this client is (and not aware of the fact), I'd rather keep them somewhere with stellar support. I can't get anything at KnoxColo except a default Apache page. Anyone mess with BudgetVM/Enzu? They seem too cheap to believe. $15/year for their cheapest VPS... -Eric -=--=---=----=----=---=--=-=--=---=----=---=--=-=- Eric B. Wolf 720-334-7734

=============================================================== From: Lynn Dixon ------------------------------------------------------ Sorry Eric. You might try Smith and Hammaker as that's Knox colos parent company. They started Knox Colo as a arm of their records management business. http:// smithandhammaker.com Here's a link to their datacenter colocation http:// smithandhammaker.com /information-technology/ datacenter / Give Geoff Tait a call and he will give you some more information. Here's his contact info. Geoff Tait Cell: (865) 228-8312 GTait @ smithandhammaker.com Just let him know that Lynn Dixon sent ya. They have always been awesome to me, and Geoff goes out of his way to help people. My 1U Colo with them is only $35 per month and never had any problems with them.

=============================================================== From: "Alex Smith (K4RNT)" ------------------------------------------------------ ROFL I was going to suggest you look into Amazon, though I do work for them, I am a regular paying customer look everyone else, I don't get any discounts on EC2, nor get any kind of compensation for recommending their service. I just can't help but want to help you save money if I can. Check out their Simple Monthly Calculator to get an estimate of your monthly cost: http://aws.amazon.com/calculator Since it sounds like you're not using SMTP, no need to worry about SpamHaus or anything like that. I use AWS for both hobbyist and my freelance IT work. I have two EC2 instances, use S3 for personal backup, and give family members and friends S3 buckets for their own home computer backup personals= .
