OT: SSD magic!

So I just got a new Macbook Pro cause my MacBook air was being coveted =
by my sweetheart and the 11.6 inch screen on the air was just to small =
to do any real work.

I got a 15" i7 quad 2.3ghz with 8gb ram and 750gb HDD.

Pretty snappy out of the box, but I had been spoiled by the SSD in my =
Macbook Air. So I ordered a Crucial 512gb SSD that was both on sale and =
highly rated ($399 Amazon)

Installed yesterday, loaded up Mountain Lion, then migrated my stuff. =
Rebooted several times and tweaked some stuff including a utility to =
allow "Trim" on non-apple SSD's. Rebooted a few more times and WOW!!!!

3-4 seconds from off to Login, 2-3 seconds from Login to ready to use. =
MOST software launches either instantly, or sub-second times. Photoshop =
with additional filters takes 2 seconds. browsing/page loads even *seem* =
faster.

This is my second "after market" SSD and the results compared to the =
first are like night and day.

This setup is freakin' stupid fast... it actually makes me chuckle how =
fast some of this stuff is...

Just WOW.

It's great isn't it? That's basically my laptop for work. (A perk for
having to support physicians with apple devices)

I'll have SSDs for everything I can from now on. The EFDs we use on the SAN
freaking scream.

You hush your mouth about Tandys. Especially the 1000 series. :-)
My first "real" computer was a Tandy 1000 HX. I got it when I was a kid.
Freaking loved that thing.
Then I went to a Tandy 1000 SL2.
Then I upgraded to a Tandy Sensation.

I guess I could be called a Tandy fan.

Never had a 1000, but there's a Model I in my attic with a Lobo LX-80 
interface. Has a whopping 48K of DRAM and an 80-track drive. I actually 
wrote an application for a local bheer distributor in assembly. Freaking 
fast. Too bad the M$ assembler generated buggy code and killed the 
project (Paul Allen said we'd have to buy it again for the bug fix -- 
and we'd had it about 36 hours). Is it any wonder I'm so anti-M$??
