=============================================================== From: Nick Smith ------------------------------------------------------ I HATE republic parking. Its a monopoly that needs to be shut down. ng s much ke

=============================================================== From: Frank Fry ------------------------------------------------------ They are a private corporation with NO law enforcement capability. I have received a number of tickets by them and have never and will never pay. They can bite my shinny metal ass. Just ignore the ticket or send them some monopoly money to pay it.

=============================================================== From: Nick Smith ------------------------------------------------------ Well, the problem is that they are really the only parking people around, so if you have an outstanding ticket, wont they just tow your car? I figured they would have a central database somewhere to keep track of it = all. Ive always been too afraid to test that theory, since a tow bill would be much more than the $15 they charge for parking..... =A0I er pay. hem er he rking r I ey or how s.

=============================================================== From: Aaron welch ------------------------------------------------------ +1 I can understand a business owner capitalizing on a given opportunity, but they have stunted the growth of downtown with their lack of innovation and refusal to increase the number of spaces per lot (build garages on existing plots). I personally want to see them either change or go out of business (they never will though). -AW

=============================================================== From: Eric Wolf ------------------------------------------------------ You have to realize several significant things about Republic Parking: 1. Republic Parking is privately held. 2. Republic Parking is one of the largest pay-for-parking companies in the world but is headquartered in Chattanooga. 3. Republic Parking is the largest land owner in Chattanooga. 4. Republic Parking probably pays more in taxes to the City of Chattanooga than probably any one other entity. All of this means that you are as likely to shut down Republic Parking as you are to move Lookout Mountain. Although #1 provides a clue on how Republic Parking could be dismantled. If the majority of Republic Parking is held by an individual (James Berry) who passes away, the estate tax burden of passing the company on to his heirs could exceed RP's ability to pay. This, by the way, is why the elder McKee family members never fly on the same plane even when they are going to the same destination. And yes, RP is evil. -Eric -=--=---=----=----=---=--=-=--=---=----=---=--=-=- Eric B. Wolf 720-334-7734

=============================================================== From: David Della Vecchia ------------------------------------------------------ Wow, maybe i'm just from out of town but I've been parking in those "Pay to park" areas all my life and i've never once paid for unattended parking. Unless someone is going to watch my car, they don't deserve my money. Never got a "ticket" or been towed in the 20 years i've been driving. Parking meters, however, i always pay. -DDV

=============================================================== From: Frank Fry ------------------------------------------------------ I pay in city lots but never in pay the republic.

=============================================================== From: Michael Scholten ------------------------------------------------------ I generally aim to park on the street as close to 4:30pm (or later) as possible... Takes care of that issue. 'course this doesn't always work for parking downtown but I know of several "lesser-known" parking areas which are both free and not too far from downtown which often comes in handy. ;) -Michael

=============================================================== From: John Aldrich ------------------------------------------------------ Quoting Michael Scholten : Care to share that info???? :D

=============================================================== From: Michael Scholten ------------------------------------------------------ What?? And lose my special parking spots?? -Michael

=============================================================== From: Aaron Welch ------------------------------------------------------ Nice response. They are not that hard to find if you look. -AW

=============================================================== From: Michael Scholten ------------------------------------------------------ True, they're not. One nice area, if you don't mind a little walking, is in the art district. I forget the road name now but the bride by Rembrants is free (no meters). The museum parking lot is also a good spot, just be conscientious of their schedule... Generally there are several spaces there. An after 4:30pm area is near Unum's new garage on 4th. May actually be a little past the garage now that I think of it. Again, so long as you don't mind a little walking... Now, if all my parking spots are taken I know who to blame. (aside from myself that is) :P -Michael

=============================================================== From: Michael Scholten ------------------------------------------------------ That would be bridge... If there are any brides over there I would assume they are not free... Still learning my new Droid... -Michael

=============================================================== From: Rod-Lists ------------------------------------------------------ There is talk of Carta taking some of the parking lots in the city. ----- Original Message ----- From: Eric Wolf To: CHUGALUG Sent: Tue, 10 Apr 2012 14:05:31 -0400 (EDT) Subject: Re: [Chugalug] OT: please help the Republic You have to realize several significant things about Republic Parking: 1. =============================================================== From: Nick Smith ------------------------------------------------------ Are the "pay here to park" meters by coolidge park republic? They have popped up everywhere on frazier ave and the road behind what use to be stone cup. e a o -=3D- 7734 er he rking r I ey or how s. elp take gin

=============================================================== From: Matt Eslinger ------------------------------------------------------ Is the Stone Cup not there anymore?

=============================================================== From: Michael Scholten ------------------------------------------------------ I think Chattanooga could possibly use a system like I've seen up in Grand Rapids, Michigan. You could pay at the meter or set up an account with your cell phone number where all you had to do was call with that phone a number for the city and type in the meter/space number you were parked by and it was start charging your credit card until you called back to "log out" as it were or the free parking time started which also stopped charging your card. The account would have your cell number (kinda like your user name), license plate, and credit card number which would only be charged the normal parking fee for the amount of time you were parked as if you were feeding the meter. Great for those of us who rarely carry coins. I forget what else it used now as it has been a couple years since I last used the service... The police/meter-maids could check the parking spot to see if it was being paid by card instead of coin or if the guy was parked illegally... -Michael

=============================================================== From: Michael Scholten ------------------------------------------------------ It's still there isn't it? I think it just changed hands some time ago but Stone Cup is still there as far as I know. -Michael

=============================================================== From: Nick Smith ------------------------------------------------------ Its BrewHaus now, a German restaurant. Never been there but suppose to have some good beer. y =3D-=3D- 34-7734 : =A0 the tter e ow how o not

=============================================================== From: Matt Eslinger ------------------------------------------------------ Sure about that? Stone Cup is further down next to Epiphany Salon. I believe BrewHaus is next to the Subway.

=============================================================== From: Nick Smith ------------------------------------------------------ I could be wrong then, i thought Stone Cup was next to subway. Might be getting the two confused, i dont get down there much. eve e: e e e: w =3D--=3D-=3D- 0-334-7734 eps on fee om know ) ld a
