=============================================================== From: William Wade ------------------------------------------------------ Although I have never used an iPad, I do have a Touchpad and can contrast it with CynogenMod 7 on it. (Alpha 1 of CM9 just came out, and I will likely be moving to that soon. I hear it is a lot better...) I agree with most of his points. (Some of the notifications are over the top annoying) and I never really use the "just type" stuff. Otherwise he is right on the money.

=============================================================== From: Chad Smith ------------------------------------------------------ I have never had an iPad, but I have had an iPhone, and do have an iPod Touch. I also have a HP TouchPad. I ***LOVE*** the way it handles multitasking / multiple windows. It's not even such a groundbreaking idea, really. It really harkens back to Cascade function of windows that's been around since Windows 3.1 I believe. (Possibly other OSes, idk, I just know the first memory I have of it is from early Windows.) When the iPad first came out, I pretty much hated it - because it was a giant iPod Touch, and not a tablet Mac. I still pretty much feel that way, just not as strongly. I get that the UI needs to be tailored for the touch screen. I completely get that. But it doesn't have to be hobbled by it. Tablets are still computers. They are still *powerful* computers capable of a lot. Even a cheap $75 tablet from China is more powerful than a $1000 laptop from 10 years ago. Why can't it behave more like a "traditional" computer. The HP TouchPad does. I also have 2 Android tablets, a cheap one and a name-brand one. Neither of them does Multitasking very well. One does have a button that brings up a column of screenshots of the more recently used apps - but they are just that, screenshots. And they are the most recently used apps - not the apps that are currently running. It's really crap. I hate how technology - and progress in general - is hobbled by idiotic decisions by corporate bureaucrats. The TouchPad never stood a chance. And with WebOS open-sourced, there is a *possibility* that it will have a future, but I don't know if the community is ready to embrace yet another OS, especially one that was never given the opportunity to shine. I think I am beginning to understand the passion of the Acorn/Amiga crowds and their "What-might-have-been" alternative timeline desires. *- Chad W.
