From: Rod-Lists ------------------------------------------------------ A dell poweredge 2600. the wife wnts to make it a media server. I leaning toward hosting several virt servers on it. Or I could just load just enough windows for an eve or wow client and load the whole os in memory. Or is that just too sick. ;) Well at least it will run a decent game of life.

=============================================================== From: Dave Brockman ------------------------------------------------------ -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Depends what you want to do with it.... Good luck with that. I don't believe the board in that thing supports x64 chips or chips supporting VT. You can use software Virt... but why? Let me know when you find a video card that works in that thing that will play WoW in anything close to decent resolution.... also think those things maxed out at 12 GB RAM, so don't get too ahead of yourself. =============================================================== From: Bret McHone ------------------------------------------------------ You can load ESX 3.5 on it, but the 2600's only have 32-bit processors which will limit you. I used some poweredge 2650 rack mount servers for a test environment for a little while until we decommissioned some 2950 servers. -B

=============================================================== From: "Alex Smith (K4RNT)" ------------------------------------------------------ I have a ProLiant DL360 G3 and a DL380 G4 that I've been using with VirtualBox for virtualization - works fine. If you want any amount of decent storage, and it supports, I suggest a PCI-X SATA controller, such as this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ADDONICS-ADS3GX4R5-E-RAID-5-JBOD-SATA-II-PCIX-CONTR= OLLER-/290670668162?pt=3DLH
