From: Tim Youngblood ------------------------------------------------------ 8:00pm until 10:00pm 100 Cherokee Blvd, Chattanooga TN 37405 This is our weekly planning meeting. We are in the organizing phase: identifying locations, dreaming up curricula, listing equipment we'd like to see in house one day, and just all around sharing ideas. Please join us if you'd like to have some input and bring your skills to the group. Thanks! Tim

=============================================================== From: Joe Freeman ------------------------------------------------------ My son, James went last week, and I think he's planning on going tonight. I'd like to see some mid-grade test equipment such as a decent o'scope, digital multimeter, freq counter, etc, in addition to misc fab equipment (metal working, lathes, etc) including a 3d printer like a makerbot (or a home grown variant thereof). I have lots of interest in this, but little free time right now. I've got an electronics background, programming experience across several platforms and languages, network experience, and I'm a ham radio operator. When I have time, I like to play with micro-controllers and robotics, but I'm not limited to hardware hacking. My project of the moment is an aquaponics setup I'd like to have ready for this spring. Joe

=============================================================== From: Tim Youngblood ------------------------------------------------------ We were glad to see James last week and hope to see you soon, Joe. He mentioned you were interested so we look forward to getting this off the ground and leveraging your knowledge at some point in the near future.

=============================================================== From: Rod-Lists ------------------------------------------------------ can't make it. Still picking my wife up after midnight. :( Joe I would love hear about your aquaponics (aquaculure + hydroponics) exercise. indoors or out? What kind aquatic life are you using? etc I love to an outdoor setup but am worried about freezing. ----- Original Message ----- From: Joe Freeman To: timyoungblood@gmail.com, CHUGALUG Sent: Thu, 09 Feb 2012 12:28:14 -0500 (EST) Subject: Re: [Chugalug] ChattLab Makerspace Weekly Meeting Tonight My son, James went last week, and I think he's planning on going tonight. =============================================================== From: Joe Freeman ------------------------------------------------------ To start with, I'm going to use 55 gallon food grade tight-head plastic drums in a modified barrelponics configuration. I got four of these drums from the Stuff-4-less store at Hwy 41 and Cherokee Valley for $12.50 each. I'm planning to do it outside initially, but if it works well, I'll probably build a greenhouse around it to help keep it warm in the winter. As for fish, I'm planning on catfish for now, but have thought about crawfish, perch, and even stripped bass. Each of those comes with its own requirements for care and feeding, so I expect I'll kill quite a few while I learn. I plan to plant tomatoes, peas, and peppers primarily, and experiment with others over time. Initially, system management will be a manual thing. However, I've got a half dozen or so pic microcontrollers (thanks to parts samples from the vendors) laying around begging for something to do, so I've already started thinking about how to instrument and automate what I can down the road. If it all works, I've got plans on moving the fish tanks to 330 gallon IBC containers down the road. I figured I'd start small, though, while I learn.

=============================================================== From: Rod-Lists ------------------------------------------------------ pity the missus doesn't like catfish. I'd go with that too. I think anything that doesn't require fishmeal would be good. ----- Original Message ----- From: Joe Freeman To: CHUGALUG Sent: Thu, 09 Feb 2012 14:05:12 -0500 (EST) Subject: Re: [Chugalug] ChattLab Makerspace Weekly Meeting Tonight To start with, I'm going to use 55 gallon food grade tight-head plastic drums in a modified barrelponics configuration.
