From: John Aldrich ------------------------------------------------------ My ex-wife's grandmother needed a new DSL modem (showed that by taking my modem and router up there and plugging 'em in and connecting to the internet, where even with my router, her modem didn't connect.) She called Windstream and apparently they are no longer sending out plain old DSL modems, instead they are following AT&T/Bellsouth's lead and sending out modem routers. Unfortunately it appears their install script is buggy and I had to call tech support. They gave me the username and password to access the router's configuration website. The IP address that the router is assigned (internal) is 192.168.254.254 and the username and password combo is admin/admin. From there I was able to program up the info for the ex-grandmother-in-law's connection and get her up and running. The nice thing about this modem/router is that it is a wireless router, so if you have wireless devices you don't need a separate access point. The bad thing is that this is a telephone company piece of hardware and you don't have a lot of configuration options, even having access to the username/password for the router. Anyway, I thought I'd pass along the info in case anyone else needs it.

=============================================================== From: "Alex Smith (K4RNT)" ------------------------------------------------------ Yeah, one of my friends in Murfreesboro had the same problem with his, AT&T/BellSouth sent him a Westell DSL wireless gateway, which *royally* sucked. I got him a WRT54G router with DD-WRT on it, and he really likes the change= . May want to look at that solution if they have any problems - set the new DSL router into bridge mode, if it has that capability. Only if it's broke, man... =3D) net, am ad tech al) is there ion o if have rd for
