I had a coupon for an Intel Core i7-2600K for $229. The CPUs are in a locked case so I had to get a salesman. He told me that they had another offer going for $50 any Z68 motherboard with the i7. He also said that he had a customer use both offers the day before so he knew I could combine them. I was planning to eventually downsize my system and was going to get a MicroATX motherboard. The salesman turned around to the wall of motherboards, immediately reached out and grabbed the right one. And this is in a collection of motherboards the size of the cereal aisle in a grocery store. Except that the Gigabyte motherboards are packaged and labelled almost identically. I asked if it had four SATAIII ports. He glanced at the box and said "yes." I could not see how he verified it (Gigabyte's packaging is hard to decipher). Micro Center puts their own sticker on motherboard boxes that has all the standard info in one place. I also grabbed a 240GB SSD drive for the same sales price as NewEgg. I asked if they sold Mushkin drives. The sales guy said no and agreed with my disappointment since Mushkin is actually a Denver-based company. Micro Center doesn't stock as wide a variety of geeky goodies as Fry's but they have 1000X more gear than Best Buy and techs with some kind of clue. I just hope they can maintain their business model. I can't imagine they made any money off of me since I walked out paying a little over $600 for gear that cost $800 on sale through NewEgg (or anywhere else on the 'Net for that matter). -Eric -=--=---=----=----=---=--=-=--=---=----=---=--=-=- Eric B. IMO it is well worth the drive if you need computer parts and people who know what they are talking about. =============================================================== From: David Della Vecchia ------------------------------------------------------ Little Korea? I lived in Atlanta for 5 years and never heard of such a place. Where is this Little Korea you speak of? -Dave =============================================================== From: Sean Brewer ------------------------------------------------------ The Buford Highway corridor, basically. =============================================================== From: Phil Sieg ------------------------------------------------------ Nope that is Little China, google the address of Microcenter it is in the Little Korea neighborhood. Sent from my iPhone The Buford Highway corridor, basically. =============================================================== From: Lynn Dixon ------------------------------------------------------ There's 2 micro centers in Atlanta I thought. The one I always go to is just a mile or 2 off of i75. I think its on the Delk road exit right before you get to 285 =============================================================== From: Lynn Dixon ------------------------------------------------------ Ah forgot to mention. There is also a tigerdirect warehouse and storefront on the north east side of Atlanta. A lot of guys from work have been there and they say its awesome =============================================================== From: Adam Jimerson ------------------------------------------------------ It's relativity small, I would say only a couple of blocks, but you know you are there because all the signs are in Korean. The one I know of is the one in Duluth, I have friends who live in Snellville and that is the closer of the two. I'm not sure if the Microcenter itself is in Little Korea but the shopping center across the street sure is. =============================================================== From: gary hasty ------------------------------------------------------ It's on Buford just around 285 where the alphabet changes to Korean. We had finished eating and were waiting for the check when a dog ran from the back of the restaurant and close behind was what appeared to be be the cook yelling and screaming. We just looked at one another and busted out laughing. We didn't go back but the food was excellent. |
