From: Tim Youngblood ------------------------------------------------------ The sporadic surfacing of interested folk for a makerspace here in Chattanooga has finally coalesced into a group. What do we have to show for it? 1. A validation of the idea as something that is good for our community 2. A core group of folks that can provide: infrastructure, curriculum and communications 3. This Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/ChattLab We have met weekly for the past month to pool together ideas for getting this off the ground. There seems to be a good deal interest beyond idle curiosity for a good percentage of attendees, so we felt it appropriate to invite anyone interested from CHUGALUG to attend going forward. We'll meet tomorrow evening (Thursday February 2nd) 8pm at 100 Cherokee Blvd room #320. Everyone is welcome. What to bring: an idea of how you could contribute to getting this launched, mostly around the areas of item #2 above. I look forward to seeing you there! Tim

=============================================================== From: Tim Youngblood ------------------------------------------------------ I hear you. I am not a Facebook as an early conceptualizer of the Facebook suicide movement! This really is a community effort and the results come from those who want to participate. The person that stepped forward two meetings ago offered to set up the Facebook page and we took the up on the offer. A Google Apps for Domains account has been created also. Early stages folks. In the end, if no one wants a makerspace bad enough to make it happen, then we'll get just that! Carpe diem, Tim

(I still use facebook by the way) Hell, I would be there if I had to make an @msn.com account to do it. Think about that level of dedication for a moment. --Jason Brown

=============================================================== From: Lisa Ridley ------------------------------------------------------ Um, I'd love to be there but: The Apple Developers group meets on the first Thursday of every month, = and has so for several months now. I run that group and so I can't = cancel it on such short notice (not sure I'd want to anyway). Maybe next meeting. Also, more notice would be helpful. Some of us are busy running our = companies and are time stretched. Last minute meetings fall to the = bottom of the stack. Just saying=85... =============================================================== From: Tim Youngblood ------------------------------------------------------ I think the last minute notice is evidence of your claim. We'll do better in the future and I hope to see you next week. We are very early stages right now so you aren't going to miss the Nuclear Fission Reactor kit just yet. d m or y

=============================================================== From: Dee Holtsclaw ------------------------------------------------------ Wow. I about fell out of my chair. Wish I didn't work in Riceville ... and hadn't spent 2 hrs last night trying to find a pharmacy that had stock to refill my prescription. I keep telling myself "someday I'll have the time ..."

=============================================================== From: Tim Youngblood ------------------------------------------------------ We are meeting weekly Thursday nights to get this off the ground. We hope to see you next time.

=============================================================== From: Tim Youngblood ------------------------------------------------------ Thanks for sharing this Daniel. I've sat through the first one but I'm about cooked. I think there will come a time where we can reconnect with this group once some of the infrastructure is in place both physical and legal. Thank you VERY much for your help tonight. You and Donna are the real deal.

=============================================================== From: Ed King ------------------------------------------------------ I'm glad these sessions were recorded... fun to watch the genesis of Chatt*lab!
