=============================================================== From: Stephen Haywood ------------------------------------------------------ There's a reason menus have been around unchanged for 30 years. It's because they work. This heads up display looks horrible. -- Stephen Haywood Information Security Consultant CISSP, GPEN, OSCP T: @averagesecguy W: averagesecurityguy.info

=============================================================== From: Bret McHone ------------------------------------------------------ it seems like they are trying to do a sort of merging of command line and menus for applications. The idea behind menus is that it shows you all of your options instead of you having to either memorize commands or look them up manually. I can see that this may be good for some, not so good for others. It will be interesting to see where they take it. -B

=============================================================== From: Randy Yates ------------------------------------------------------ Why would someone need to search for "undo"? I know it's just showing the features of the HUD, but I thought that was strange. Am I alone in thinking that they need to concentrate less on making radical changes to the desktop UI. Some of us don't want or need these radical changes. I would rather have seen them improve on Gnome 2, while keeping it familiar.

=============================================================== From: Rod-Lists ------------------------------------------------------ Ubuntu wants to move into tablet, phone, and TV space. This might be more natural in that field. I have feeling we may be like those folk in England who still converted to = old money system after decimalisation because it was what they were used to= . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/=C2=A3sd ----- Original Message ----- From: Randy Yates To: CHUGALUG Sent: Fri, 27 Jan 2012 12:06:41 -0500 (EST) Subject: Re: [Chugalug] so are ready to get rid of menus? =============================================================== From: Randy Yates ------------------------------------------------------ I agree that is the case, but Ubuntu was gaining so much ground as a desktop OS. It seems like they are throwing that away in favor of a new platform, and that platform is dominated by Android and iOS. I mean, Android works great as a tablet OS. Ubuntu may have a shot at the netbook platform, but I don't see that as a popular platform. I think most people would go for a tablet instead of a netbook for portability. The platform Ubuntu should stayed focused on is the desktop and laptop, and neither of those benefit from this new type of UI. o to. ng op

=============================================================== From: Rod-Lists ------------------------------------------------------ Problem is that is not future of computing, I'm afraid. I like PC' and net books were great at $200 to $250. But @ $300+ they are t= oo much for what they are. ----- Original Message ----- From: Randy Yates To: CHUGALUG Sent: Fri, 27 Jan 2012 12:19:21 -0500 (EST) Subject: Re: [Chugalug] so are ready to get rid of menus?
