Anyone know if there is such a thing as a "generic" firmware for a Netopia
3374NWG? I picked one up at a flea market awhile back and thought I'd see about
putting something on it. It appears to be a Bellsouth DSL modem/router, and
I'd like to see if it can be used on a non-Bellsouth/AT&T DSL.
Thanks!
=============================================================== From: William Wade ------------------------------------------------------ Generally (meaning I have not heard of one that is not this way) even the dsl modems that you get from a telcom can still be used anywhere, but with DSL you will likely have to set the VPI/VCI if it is from a different area. There sometimes are some other settings you have to change based on the provider. Check out http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r20379622-Modem-Netopia-3347-DSL-Modem-Configfor various links to various official firmwares and how to use them. =============================================================== From: Phil Sieg ------------------------------------------------------ John, forgive me for being negative... but WHY? Cable DSL modems are highly proprietary and there seems to be little to = no benefit to dorking with them. Furthermore they are provided for free = with the service these days. OR get EPB and it is no longer needed. I'm stuck with two choices: Windstream or Charter. I'm really trying to help out my ex-wife's grandmother. Her DSL isn't working and I can't figure out why. I'm hoping to rule out the modem by taking the Netopia, but if I can't make it work, I won't bother, and I'll just go pick up a cheap router for her to at least test with (to rule in/out Windows as the problem.) |
