=============================================================== From: Ed King ------------------------------------------------------ final update: got elks to work (booted up, able to login) on tandy tl/3 286 with 640k I haven't had this much fun since... the last time I had fun. next! =============================================================== From: Michael Scholten ------------------------------------------------------ It's the little things in life... =============================================================== From: Dee Holtsclaw ------------------------------------------------------ Why did I just flash to a scene in Galaxy Quest ... =============================================================== From: Rod-Lists ------------------------------------------------------ my understanding is that linux requires at least a 386. 286 you something like minux. I had an old "lunchbox"/ portable that I feared was a 286. So I did research. This back during the doctor building days. Though I don't think I ever got around to actually booting the beast in nix. ----- Original Message ----- From: Ed King To: CHUGALUG Sent: Sun, 15 Jan 2012 23:52:59 -0500 (EST) Subject: linux on 286 (was: Re: [Chugalug] 10+ Years of Linux (for me)) an update, for those who care (probably no one) I was able to "boot" elks on my tandy 1000 tl/3 (286 processor) however when I try to login it hangs, same problem this dude has: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=554284&group =============================================================== From: Rod-Lists ------------------------------------------------------ "Look! If the mailing list is not a suitable place for asking questions about Linux, then it is a suitable place for asking questions about not-Linux, as there were no other parameters defined. The only one I like is: I'm so meta, even this acronym because it doesn't try to be anything it's not, and doesn't give us craptastic names like: GIMP, BitchX, GNU, etc. But GNU's not Unix, Linux is not Unix, and ELKS is not Linux. Either way, this is Chugalug, and you can talk about all of them here. I was simply pointing out that ELKS isn't Linux, despite its name, and the name of this thread. I was being nerdy and defending the strict definition of the word "Linux". *- Chad W. Smith* *"I like a man who's middle name is W."* President George W. Bush - February 10, 2003 bit.ly/gwb-dubya |
