I have a HP Pavilion DV6-2000 Series laptop with what looks to be a dead
motherboard. I am having a terrible time finding a new one. The sites I
found either don't have it in stock, have it for too much for my client
(ebay for $200), and/or don't trust the websites.
So, my question for y'all, anyone have a 571186-001 motherboard or know
where I could pick one up for a decent price? Problem is I don't completely
know what "a decent price" is for my client other then when I mentioned the
only one I had found thus far was $200 she said that she probably wouldn't
be able to pay that. As I work on other's computers as a side job/hobby I
can keep my prices pretty low, other then the parts that is...

=============================================================== From: John Aldrich ------------------------------------------------------ Quoting Michael Scholten : y e ran into a similar situation at my previous employer. Said employer =20 chose not to repair the system. Perhaps you could find a similarly =20 powered machine and just mount the hard drive from the dead machine as =20 a slave and copy the data over? =============================================================== From: Aaron welch ------------------------------------------------------ What are the specs? I could probably find a machine with a similar config for the cost of that MB. -AW =============================================================== From: Eric Wolf ------------------------------------------------------ http://lmgtfy.com/?q=+571186-001 First hit was $99 but out of stock. The next few, in stock: http://www.getcomputerparts.com/hp-pavilion-dv6-entertainment-motherboard-571186001-refurbished =============================================================== From: William Wade ------------------------------------------------------ Even working on the side a laptop motherboard takes a while to replace. When I worked in a repair shop back in high school I go to where I could do that job in just over an hour. Now it would likely take an hour and a half. (All to be sure no screws are missed) Anyway you should be charging for at least two hours of work to do this job. At market prices that would be about $200 just for the labor. All that to say that unless the laptop is really nice, under warranty, or you get the labor for free or the parts for free, it is not worth the money you are putting into it. Sell it on eBay for parts and get another one. Just wanted to give another viewpoint to make sure you know what you are doing. =============================================================== From: Michael Scholten ------------------------------------------------------ Much better looking results, thanks! First off, thanks Eric for the "lmgtfy" link. ;) Always wanted to use that on someone and never had a good chance to without coming across as a jerk. (Not saying you did) As for the other links in your email, they look much better then what I was getting, for some reason I didn't see those other companies. I saw Alibaba and a couple other sites that didn't show prices and/or said something that looked like I put in the price I wanted to pay without any sort of mention as to what they wanted... At any rate it all left me feeling a little uneasy about many sites. As for the price I know I could be getting MUCH more then what I charge but for now it is more about the knowledge I am getting then the money I could get. Also I am mostly doing work for friends and family. Not really looking for market prices right now, probably further down the road when I am feeling more comfortable/confident with what I know as everything I know is self taught when it comes to computers. -Michael =============================================================== From: Lisa Ridley ------------------------------------------------------ FWIW, the HP Pavilion DV laptop series has a history of burning through = motherboards (you can google this and see lots of crap about that -- HP = even, at one time, offer Pavilion DV owners an extra year's factory = warranty after a class action suit was filed). My personal experience = with one was three motherboards in two years, along with a new DVD-RW = drive & two new wifi cards, all replaced under warranty. To make matters worse for this laptop the owner is a smoker. Between it's own over heating issues and gumming it up with tar and dust... No offence to smokers but it does bad things to ones computer. We'll see where this goes... -Michael =============================================================== From: Michael Scholten ------------------------------------------------------ Aaron The Spec on this are: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01920676&tmp =============================================================== From: Cynicalgeek ------------------------------------------------------ I'll give you a quote for parts + labor. =============================================================== From: Michael Scholten ------------------------------------------------------ Alrighty -Michael |
