=============================================================== From: William Wade ------------------------------------------------------ I just moved my wife's laptop from Ubuntu to Fedora 16. I haven't tried Fedora since 9. Had a box copy of Red Hat 5.? and 7.2. It is nice to have Gnome-Shell (as I and my wife really like it) more supported than it is in Ubuntu. rpm stinks compared to deb still. Still have to put in one kernel parameter (acpi timer bug) and boy does Fedora make that complex. They really need a update-grub2 command instead of grub2-mkconfig -O /boot/grub2/grub.cfg Sure they do the same thing, but one is a lot harder to find. SELinux caused trouble (old home directory permissions had to be reset and not just with chown either.)

=============================================================== From: JonathanCalloway ------------------------------------------------------ Does anyone else have any general impressions of Fedora 16?=C2=A0 I'm runni= ng 15, and Im' thinking about wiping it becuase it's 64 bit.=C2=A0 It was i= nstalled on accident, and there is not real benefit to having a 64 bit kern= el on this hardware. ----- Original Message ----- From: "William Wade" To: "CHUGALUG" Sent: Tuesday, December 13, 2011 9:13:32 AM Subject: Re: [Chugalug] Testing I just moved my wife's laptop from Ubuntu to Fedora 16. =============================================================== From: Lynn Dixon ------------------------------------------------------ Hows it going stranger! I haven't messed with FC16 yet. I have been running RHEL6 and CentOS 6 on all my stuff lately just because of the new job responsibilities. I have seen screenshots of it, and the Redhatters we had down here helping us with RHEV were running FC16 on their laptops and it looked sweet. Of course, they would be partial to it though :) Maybe someone else on the LUG has ran it and can give a better opinion.

=============================================================== From: William Wade ------------------------------------------------------ Just out of curiosity, why would you not run 64 bit still? I cannot think of any non-64 bit apps outside of perhaps wine. Not like in the old days of 2004 of when I first started using 64 bit native on my desktop. =============================================================== From: Stephen Haywood ------------------------------------------------------ I tried FC16 but realized I'm too much of a debian fan to switch. On Rod's suggestion I tried Mint Linux and have been pleased with it.

=============================================================== From: Rod-Lists ------------------------------------------------------ Wasn't me. If I don't like a interface I install CR then install the de of my choice. PS I'm not afraid installing codecs ;) ----- Original Message ----- From: Stephen Haywood To: CHUGALUG Sent: Tue, 13 Dec 2011 14:11:41 -0500 (EST) Subject: Re: [Chugalug] Testing I tried FC16 but realized I'm too much of a debian fan to switch.
