I had emailed Senator Alexander voicing my concerns of SOPA and PROTECTIP a
few days ago. Surprising I got a response from someone in his office
speaking for him. I will copy-pasta that reply to me below:

Dear Mr. Dixon:
Thanks for getting in touch with me and letting me know what=92s on your mi=
nd
regarding online piracy.
Each year, the U.S. economy loses billions of dollars and hundreds of
thousands of jobs due to online piracy and the sale of counterfeit goods.
That=92s why I joined as a cosponsor of the Combating Online Infringement a=
nd
Counterfeits Act. This bipartisan legislation would give the U.S.
Department of Justice tools to quickly locate and shut down websites that
provide illegal downloads and counterfeit goods by seeking court orders
against those engaging in online piracy. At the same time, the bill
includes important safeguards, including an appeals process for website
owners seeking to have a court order lifted. This legislation is a good
step towards protecting Americans=92 intellectual property while preserving
the Internet as a free and open marketplace.
I=92m glad you took the time to let me know where you stand. I=92ll be sur=
e to
keep your comments in mind as online piracy is discussed and debated in
Washington and in Tennessee.
Sincerely,
Lamar

I would also like a cookie. I am now convinced that he does NOT represent any PERSON in his district whatsoever. Why idiots continue to re-elect criminals such as these is beyond me. Yes, I said CRIMINALS. Holding an office such as they do is a matter of public trust [which they have betrayed]. Actions such as these must be regarded as treason. =============================================================== From: Dave Brockman ------------------------------------------------------ -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I get the same form letter response from all of our representatives, who btw, if you actually live in Chatt, all of yours voted for them. The aids are actually better to talk with as they do a lot of the prioritizing for the rep. So if you want to have the maximum impact, I suggest a group get together and contact the rep's local office and setup a time to meet. You will want 2 or 3 talking points worked out a head of time and make them personal and specific. This part of the law will change my business this way. The Internet works like this currently, the law is trying to change it and it is bad because... Etc... Anyway I am out of the state or I would set this up myself. I can help draft talking points on Google docs if needed. Remember you can lobby too. The Vogons full of bogons will win eventually. =============================================================== From: Dee Holtsclaw ------------------------------------------------------ That reminds me of "Headcrash" by Bruce Bethkey (subtitled "Roadkill on the Information Superhighway"). Definitely recommended -- a must-read. Speaking of TN and the total lack of appeals, the agriculture board for pest control companies allows inspectors to make crap up as they go and there is no appeal. You pay the fines or you're out of business regardless of what proof to the contrary you may have. And forget bringing a lawyer 'cause they won't be permitted to speak and they [the board] will treble the fines to "teach you a lesson". |
