I'l squint and not jump a neophyte for posting the whole digest e-mail to the list. But for ROD to top post a reply, and not trim the umpteen billion lines of recycled electrons below it, sending it out to hundreds of people.. makes the steam pop the pressure relief. Rod should install Gentoo or Windows ME as a repentance: From floppies.. while performing pastafarian pirate prose. ---- To all; Please, if you are reading Chugalug in Digest mode, and you hit "reply", please make the Subject line relevant and trim the message to the apropos section. ----

=============================================================== From: Adam Jimerson ------------------------------------------------------ Mostly because they are using something like Gmail or another client that defaults to top-posting and they don't bother changing or correcting, if on a phone it can be a forgiveable offence because the smaller screens make it a bit harder to reply inline or for long untrimmed threads it can be a pain to scroll. I end with this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Posting

That way the most current info is what I read first. Which is why I mentioned phone users. Properly trimmed inline posts are fine on my Nexus S even though it is a 4" screen. Long bottom posts are insane to try and read. wrote: Chugalug, most that defaults to top-posting and they don't bother changing or correcting, screens make it a bit harder to reply inline or for long untrimmed threads it can

=============================================================== From: Mike Harrison ------------------------------------------------------ If "everyone" else installs/swaps to Windows 7, will you as well? Newer e-mail programs, are defaulting to top posting. It's a religious thing, and I'm mostly tolerant. To me: Trimming and posting appropriately, always gives the poster a "+5" automatic clueful factor. Trimming and top posting... "+1". And of course, a good question/comment or helpful response: "+10"

=============================================================== From: Chad Smith ------------------------------------------------------ Excellent, Ed. And I will not bottom post ever, unless I'm responding to an exact quote that I want to be read before my response. So really more of a much-clipped in-line response than a true bottom post. That said, I do occasionally try to trim. But top posting really negates the need for trimming. Especially on good email clients that *ahem* collapse quoted content. And for "people on phones"... Is this 1999? Don't phones have 800 x 480 screens and slide out keyboards? Is anyone here really responding to Chugalug via T9? *- Chad W. =============================================================== From: Dee Holtsclaw ------------------------------------------------------ That would have been more impressive if the original text was to the right (or left for that matter). As it is, it appears that you pressure-washed the text down the page. I tend to post whichever way seems most appropriate to the content being replied to. A short single-topic paragraph gets a top-post if the reply is also short. Otherwise it goes underneath for context. Multiple-topic posts I generally reply to inline -- again, for proper context.
