If so what does that mean for us dinos that like building our PC's (regardless of installed OS)?

=============================================================== From: Christopher Rimondi ------------------------------------------------------ FWIW, both Amazon and Google were doing this before Apple. https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/learnmore http://music.google.com/music/usernotinvited To your point: For the foreseeable future I can't imagine consumer HDs going away. However, the paradigm has shifted to cloud storage. It just makes sense for normal (not geeks) people who don't need to be bothered with doing backups.

=============================================================== From: Cameron Kilgore ------------------------------------------------------ I use the cloud (not apple's mind you, but amazon) to listen to 56GB of music daily while I ride the train to the airport. That's 11 years of music i've had on three hard disks, finally united and bound to one service and several common devices. I keep the hard disks on hand anyway because I can't be certain that someday, Amazon will delete these to appease licensing concerns from the Big Four. These are real needs for remote storage. Multiple platform access and backing up critical records is one of them. --Cameron

=============================================================== From: Chad Smith ------------------------------------------------------ iCloud will actually *increase* the need for local storage. Why? Because before you only needed X amount of space to store that song that is only on your iPod Touch. Now you will need X times the number of devices. So if you have an iPad, an iPhone, a MacBook Pro, and an iMac - all of the sudden you have 4 copies of everything. So your local storage will have to be quadrupled. Not to mention the fact that it keeps multiple versions of the same documents (only saving the changes - in theory - but that's still more storage). I think a lot of people are going to run out of storage real quick - especially on their iDevices - before they figure out how to not sync everything. - Chad W Smith "I like a man who's middle name is W." - President George W. Bush - February 10, 2003 bit.ly/gwb-dubya

=============================================================== From: Ken Ratliff ------------------------------------------------------ How is this any different from how it is now? If I want it on multiple devices, I have to have multiple copies. The only thing icloud does is remove the need for a central itunes repo. In a few cases, yes, the push happens automatically, but audio is not one of them. You have to purposely press the cloud button to download it to that device. Or you can directly sync it through itunes as usual.

=============================================================== From: Chad Smith ------------------------------------------------------ Because I don't want/need everything on multiple devices. And I certainly don't need multiple versions of everything on multiple devices. My 8GB iPod Touch is pretty much to capacity as it is. And I don't put music on it, or videos. Just Apps, and any pictures I might have taken. I am sure there will be a way to pick and choose, Steve Jobs already said there is a way to turn it off completely. I just don't think I'll be using it very much. The only real benefit I see is having an automatic off-site backup. Being able to share all the apps you've ever bought on all your iOS devices is very cool - but I don't know if that's a part of iCloud, or just iOS 5. - Chad W Smith "I like a man who's middle name is W." - President George W.
